Registration for the 2014 YPTC summer camp is now open.
Philadelphia Parks & Recreation's Young Performers Theater Camp is a performing arts camp for children, ages 9 through 18 (campers must be 9 years old before July 1st of 2014) who have an expressed interest in the theater and related arts. Children will receive instruction and stage experience in Dance (ballet, tap, modern & jazz), music (solo and/or ensemble singing, harmony & music theory), and drama (acting techniques improvisation, stage movement, and speech).
The camp is held Mondays through Fridays from 9AM-2PM (Camp will begin on Monday, 7/7/14, and run to Monday, 8/18/14).
Lunch and snack will be provided daily.
New Campers must submit a letter of recommendation and a copy of their birth certificate. These two documents can be submitted at the audition, faxed to 215-685-2218, or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
Children will be asked to choose a major (Dance or Musical Theater) before auditions. All dance majors will perform in a full-scale dance concert. Musical Theater majors will perform in a musical production (9-12 (Jrs): Cinderella; 13-14 (Teen): Grease; 15-18 (Sr.): Footloose Acceptance in the camp is based on auditions that are held in May of 2014. Campers from the 2013 Introduction to Performing Arts Camps MUST audition.
After you register, New campers (that includes campers from the Intro Camps) will receive an audition notice through the mail in April of 2014. New campers must bring their letter of recommendation and copy of birth certificate to the audition or fax both to 215-685-2218. Remember, you will NOT receive a letter until April of 2014.
Returning YPTC Campers (from 2013) do NOT need to audition. Just register online and, in May of 2014, you will receive a notice through the mail regarding the June Parent Orientation. Remember, you will NOT receive a letter until May of 2014.
Dance majors & Jr (9-12), and Teen (13-14) drama major programs are held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania at the Annenberg Center - 3680 Walnut St. We will also make use of the Platt Student Performing Arts House, located within walking distance, for class instructions. Dance major performances are at the Annenberg Center, and all theatre performances and our Sr. camp are held at the new state of the art Venice Island Performing Arts Center, Schuylkill Canal & Cotton Street in Manayunk. This is a great opportunity for young performers to rehearse and perform in a professional space.
Tuition for the six week program is $200 plus an additional $120 registration fee (camp shirt, DVD of the performance, costumes, etc). for a total of $320 for the six week program. For an additional fee of $150, campers can use the bus service provided by the Performing Arts office (see the transportation schedule). ALL fees are due at the Parent Orientation night in June.
